Commissioning furniture

A piece of furniture emerges from conversations and decisions we make together. I will guide you through each step. The first of which is to contact me for an initial chat.

My designs are not created using a formula. Instead they are a response to a host of different stimuli. These may include light, location, material, architectural details, a building's history, how it may relate to other objects and to your individual needs.

I'm always interested in the practical purpose of a piece of furniture - will it contain clothes, writing paper or correspondence.  How you will interact with it - will a desk or chair be the right height for you as an individual.

During the making process, I take photos of your piece being made and keep in touch. My aim is to make sure you continue to feel involved throughout. Sourcing of timber is the first step and is really important as I buy wood specifically for each piece.  Sometimes, I will also prototype elements or develop new techniques to create novel details in the design.
