Description: This small sideboard was commissioned to sit in the space between the kitchen and the living area of my clients’ apartment. It also had to fit in with the other furniture in the room, including an earlier piece I had made, the Fluted Sideboard.
During the making I decided that the doors should have a coopered construction so the grain ran the full width of the front. This made sense at the time but I soon realised I couldn’t find the correct hardware to create either the look or the functionality I was after. After going round in circles for a few days, I decided the best solution was to design my own hinges and to have them made locally. It took a while but I am really pleased with the results.
Not only do they work well but they create a really nice design detail.
