Last week I delivered an extending table made in solid European Oak. Instead of using an off-the-shelf table mechanism, I built my own one out of wood. It caused a few sleepless nights and no small amount of head scratching but I am really pleased with results. I will be putting it on the web site in a few days. In the meantime, here is an image of the table opened up ready for the leaf to be put in.
After Saturday night’s storm we went for a walk with friends in Welcombe. The storm had created a huge amount of foam on the beach so I went down and took a few shots. The wind was creating waves in the foam and then this happened.
I posted these off yesterday, a set of oak Clarity shelves with a black finish. I think they turned out quite well.

The membership consists of a large body of excellent designer-makers of furniture from all over the UK, including the top names in the field.
To some they’re regarded as a national treasure and it’s an absolute pleasure for us to welcome them to INTERIORS UK.

model : making will explore how the use of new technologies is influencing and changing the aesthetic demands of various creative disciplines.
model : making will include work by CAA members Vicki Ambery-Smith, Neil Bottle, Kane Cali, Ptolemy Mann, Naomi Mcintosh, Christian O’Reilly and guests Kathryn Hinton and Rachel Hopkins as well as the Allies and Morrison model making workshop.
Last week we fitted the desk and shelves which have been filling the workshop. We just about managed to get it all in the van without killing the suspension. Here’s a quick picture on site.

Whilst on holiday in Pembrokeshire last summer we went on one of our children’s favorite walks down to Aber Bach beach. One of the reasons they love it is the various sculptures and animals made from wood and flotsam that line the first part of the walk. They are created by a couple whose garden boarders the footpath and they always make us smile, they also have ones to take away and share.
Here are the contents of one of my tool chests – it looks a tad chaotic but it makes sense to me. Knowing where everything is really helps to speed things up in the workshop but that does depend on putting things away in the right place. As my tool kit is always being added to as new making problems arise, I sort my tools by category rather than having a specific place for each tool.
Next weekend we are exhibiting at Made London. We have a few 2 for 1 tickets to give away on a first come basis. If you would like one let me have your address before Wednesday 24th October and I will post one out.
